Fact finding mission to Upstate New York

  • Presentation of the Silicon Europe Worldwide Project in Syracuse (NY) hosted by Upstate Medical University Biotech Accelerator

From November 14 to 17, the Silicon Europe Worldwide project partners went on a fact finding mission to Upstate New York travelling from Albany to Syracuse and Rochester.

In these four days, the delegation met institutional as well as industrial representatives from the region. Next to meetings with SUNY Poly (former College of Nanoscale and Science Engineering) in Albany, the RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) in Rochester and several business development corporations of the region, companies such as INFICON and Saab Sensis introduced themselves to the project team. Furthermore, the attending parties discussed potential ways of cooperation.

Upstate New York including the region around Albany, Syracuse and Rochester is a hotspot for microelectronics and shows a growing high-tech industry. By now, it has become a hub for nanotechnologies. Within the last decades, a nanotech cluster has developed around Albany with several global players and thousands of new high qualified jobs. The region of Albany is also part of “New York’s Tech Valley” which stretches 250 kilometers along the Hudson River.

In autumn 2017, a multi-day event to foster collaborations between Europe and the USA will take place in Upstate New York hosted by Silicon Europe Worldwide amongst others. Next to different sessions, there will be company pitches and a B2B matchmaking. So, stay tuned!
